Hi.

Welcome to vox.io’s blog. We are a group of developers, designers and telco specialists with a funky vision for the future of voice & video communication. We’ve started vox.io to implement this vision through its products across multiple platforms (mainly web and mobile).

What is vox.io?

In its first incarnation, vox.io is a phone “stuck” in a browser - nothing to download, nothing to install. We allow you to make free calls over the internet and calls to anywhere on earth for convenient rates.

We don’t claim that we are the cheapest, nor that we have the best call quality - that’s for you to decide.

What we are sure of is that we are investing a lot of love and energy into making vox.io as lovable as humanly possible and hopefully your tool of choice for starting voice & video conversations.

How is that different from [insert desktop VoIP provider name here]?

The main difference is that with vox.io, you already have everything you need. There’s nothing to download or install, no new number to set up, and you don’t even have to put money into your account before trying it out.

If you can read this blog post, and if you’ve ever managed to watch a YouTube video on your desktop computer, you do not need anything else to start making calls.

Vox.io also let’s you import your contacts from Google Contacts (synced with your Android phone) or Facebook, saving you the hassle of having to manually create your contact list.

Okay, that sounds cool. What else?

When you sign up for vox.io, you will automagically get a vox.io/username profile page. Your friends, business partners, and even random people from the internet (depending on your privacy settings) will be able to find you, add you as a contact, and call you straight from there.

Finally, vox.io let’s you create ad-hoc, call-enabled links. Just create a link, send it, and receive a call once your link is clicked. Your friend does not need a vox.io account or an installed client to talk to you. These Quick Calls are free if answered with vox.io on the web, while calls to phones are charged as normal calls.

Where are you going with vox.io?

We believe that voice and video communication on the internet can be even better than it is today. With a fresh approach and new types of services, made possible by having a “phone in the browser,” we plan to enable many cases of casual voice and video communication on both web and mobile.

Stay tuned, we haven’t even started yet.
