Calling just got a bit better

We have been quiet for a bit, but today we are bringing you the next version of vox.io. It is full of new magic, improved functionality, and several bug fixes. Most of the improvements we made in this version are a reflection of what we have learned from you - our super beta users. We really did a lot, but there are a few things that deserve a special mention.

Need for speed

We all love fast web products, but we’ll admit it - vox.io was not fast enough, so we made some major improvements under the hood (we’ll prepare a more technical post on that soon), that will allow us to move faster in the future and make the calling experience as awesome and seamless as it gets; We are aiming for lightning fast.

Echo-o-o-o is no more

The second big improvement is a fresh new caller. We minimized its size, so it loads much faster, and we streamlined the design to make the flow simpler. But the most important thing we added is echo cancellation. To put it simply, your calls should sound great even without headphones. We are still tweaking this feature and would very much appreciate any feedback you have on it.

No re-loads

The third major change we made was adopting a complete AJAX interface, which makes it possible to seamlessly navigate through vox.io without losing connection. This simply means fewer dropped calls and a smoother way to reach your online contacts. To spice this up, we also improved your online presence. The colored border around your profile picture (in the top right corner) will tell you if you are offline, connecting, or available. Of course, being available means your connected contacts will be able to see and call you for free, so make sure you pin the vox.io tab in your favorite browser ;)

What’s next?

We are keeping ourselves busy. Major efforts are being directed towards having the mobile platform ready soon. First iOS, and then Android soon after that. On the web front, we will be adding some neat features without compromising the simplicity of your vox.io experience. Trust us, it is worth the wait.

Please let us know how you like the new update. We are listening to you on Twitter and Facebook.
